Health Management Internship Program (NSW)

The Health Management Internship Program (HMIP) offers committed, high-potential Interns the opportunity to develop the skills, capabilities and knowledge required to start a career in managing the challenges and complexities of health service delivery across NSW. The program includes:

  1. Employment in a NSW Health organisation, gaining skills and knowledge through supervised structured workplace experience
  2. An industry-recognised postgraduate academic qualification in Health Administration
  3. Professional development activities which offer Interns the opportunity to prepare themselves for a career managing the challenges and complexities of health service delivery across NSW  in public, private and not for profit organisations.

NSW HMIP Graduation 2019

The 2019 NSW HMIP graduation was held on Thursday 12 April at the Kirribilli Club - Kirribilli, Sydney. It was a night of celebrating the achievements of the fourteen Health Management Interns who successfully completed the Program.

The opening address was given by Stewart Dowrick, CE of Mid North Coast LHD who spoke of his experience while on the program and what emerging health service managers should take with them as they embark on their careers.

The Kevin Dodd Oration was given by Richard Baldwin, who was fortunate to have known and worked with Kevin for many years. He was able to speak about Kevin and health management from a truly personal perspective. He also touched on ten tips for a successful career as a health service manager; Quality, Culture, Focus and change, Art of the possible, Loyalty, Stay Calm, Don’t sweat the small stuff, Get Started, Partnership and Brand.

The graduand response was given by outgoing 2nd Year Michael Donnolley , who spoke on behalf of the graduating class, reflecting lessons learned through the HMIP.
