The Townsville Hospital and Health Service (HHS) is seeking an outstanding Chief Operating Officer to shape the strategic direction of the organisation and meet performance standards.

This senior leadership position will oversee five clinical service groups: surgical, medical, rural hospitals, mental health and health and wellbeing. It also includes supervision of corporate services and financial, infrastructure and support services.

The Townsville HHS has an annual operating budget of $928 million and is the region’s largest civilian employer with a workforce of more than 6000.

The Townsville HHS comprises 18 facilities including community health, aged-care facilities and rural hospitals covering an area from Cardwell in the worth, Richmond in the west and Ayr and Home Hill in the south.

The position is based at The Townsville Hospital, northern Australia’s largest tertiary, research and teaching hospital.

The Townsville HHS is among the top-performing of the 16 HHS’s in Queensland with six consecutive surplus budgets and state-leading performance in elective surgery, emergency care, dental and specialist outpatients.

Every day the HHS sees 336 people in emergency departments, sees 1913 people through specialist outpatient clinics and performs 36 operations. Demand for services continues to rise with a 13.2 per cent increase in hospital admissions in the past 12 months.

Under the leadership of newly appointed Chief Executive, Kieran Keyes, the HHS is embarking upon the next phase of its development.

The challenge will be to continue to provide timely, world-class and compassionate care to a population of 250,000 but servicing a wider catchment of 670,000 for complex tertiary care.

We are interested in individuals of stature and ambition who will make remarkable leaps in operational delivery. You will aspire to deliver outstanding operational performance and inspire and empower the directorate teams. To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate a track-record of achievement and a strong motivation for the role and commitment to delivering value-based high-quality care.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an aspirant or established executive or service director to join a committed and talented group of clinical and managerial colleagues and play a key strategic role in shaping the delivery of care across Townsville HHS.
