Your ACHSM Certification journey

We developed the Certification program to provide professional credentialing to health managers and leaders.

The program is part of our strategy to increase advocacy for the health management profession through professional growth and development. Please see links on the right for an overview of the strategic plan from College President Dr Neale Fong.

The Certification program supports our mission to “develop, equip and support high-performing health, community and aged care leaders to deliver quality services and improve community health and wellbeing”.

Following membership consultation in 2019, we have designed two tiers of Certification for ACHSM members:

Tier 1

Certified Health Manager for Associate Fellows.

Tier 2

Certified Health Executive for Fellows.

If you are a Fellow when you undertake the Certification Program, your designation on completion will be Certified Health Executive (CHE). Once Certified, when you advance from Associate Fellow to Fellow, your designation will automatically change from Certified Health Manager (CHM) to Certified Health Executive (CHE).

Having completed the Certification Program Application form, you will be advised by ACHSM which level you are qualified for.

The Professional & Social Responsibility Unit is provided by Griffith University and costs $765 inc GST. If you’ve already completed this unit, your Certification program fees will be reduced accordingly.

Maintenance of Certification

The Maintenance of Certification (MOC) is mandatory for members who have already achieved Certified Health Manager (CHM) or Certified Health Executive (CHE) certification.

The purpose of MOC is to demonstrate lifelong learning, professional excellence and a high level of competence characterised by a focus on ethics, professional development, coaching and mentoring, networking, active participation in health leadership and growing a community of interest.

MOC conditions and rules

Certified members, i.e., CHMs and CHEs must achieve 75 MOC Points every 3 years, with a minimum of 30 points from education events. See the table below for points options.

Points can be accrued at any time over the triennium and will be audited at the end of the triennium period.

Every CHE and CHM is responsible for the accurate entry of their MOC activities using the ACHSM member portal under the “MY MOC/CPD” section.
